Visual exploration 2, Colour story, Week 5 (19/02/2024)

In the fifth week into the module of colour story, we explored a variety of variations of folded book formats that we could consider incorporating into our colour story project. As shown below, these were a few of the variations we experimented in creating such as; the t-shaped cut, star/x format and the Turkish map fold.

Following this exploration session, I continued my research into how folded formats can be incorporated into illustrative works such as children's books. In relation to the format of children's books, folded formats can significantly enhance the illustrations ability to communicate the narrative of the work's message/story and exaggerate the atmosphere and environment of the illustrated world.
For instance, some notable examples I found that I thought successfully employed this integration of folded formats included:

Pirate treasure hunt: Detective paws and the case of the golden cat (Tango books, 2009)

Watch out in the jungle! (Tango books, 2005)

Dragonology: the complete book of dragons (Dugald Steer, 2003)
