Visual exploration 2 - Illustration (L4)

Throughout the development of my character narrative project (from week 5 - 16), the process of conceptualizing my character sheet and vignette illustrations notably changed with experimentation. With this project, I aimed to explore different methods, mediums and visualisations of Marie Antionette alongside my research.  During the beginning stages of the project, I started by researching many different depictions of Marie as they notably varied throughout her lifetime. For instance, during her early life paintings of her were significantly innocent and angelic in composition while during the last years of her life her visuals were more stern and lavish in lifestyle and image. Over the the weeks of development into the project colour story, my initial ideas for the concept and processes were put into action. In this project, I wanted to explore the colour of venetian red and its connections within Greek mythology, it's ancient empire's environments and its employment within pottery in the late 9th century BCE. I wanted to create a scroll using dyed fabric as the canvas depicting the Greek god Ares in battle as a link to represent the ancient colour of venetian red.
